An interesting one-story store erected on main streets throughout the country in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It can house many types of small retail stores. With the addition of an open shed at the side it can house many types of light service enterprises, such as a stone cutter, carpenter shop, or auto repair shop. Many of these small false front buildings can still be found today.

Mercer's Dry Goods is an example of typical building design of the period and is not a model of a specific prototype.
